Description
With updated mathematics standards, WA Math 2025, now is the time to consider the landscape of mathematics teaching and learning in ways that have students engaged and thinking.
Assessment in a Thinking Classroom extends learning rather than simply measuring it. This is critical both in the classroom and in the world outside of the classroom! In this session, we focus on assessing content knowledge and integrating formative and summative assessment within a BTC framework and connecting to the 14 research-based practices in Building Thinking Classrooms. Participants will leave with practical strategies and tools for aligning grading practices with the principles of student thinking, student ownership of learning, and deep understanding of concepts and content.
The practices discussed will intertwine with, and make extensive referencs to the newly released books, Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classrooms (K-5, and 6-12).
This is not an introductory class. It is recommended that participants have begun implementing Building Thinking Classrooms practices in their classrooms.
Peter Liljedahl is the author and co-author of the books:
