Description

As of 2024 Legislative Session and RCW 28A.210.390 a school district must obtain and maintain at least one set of opioid overdose reversal medication doses in each of its public schools. This requires all school districts to obtain and maintain at least one set of opioid overdose reversal medication doses in each of its schools. This workshop will train designated school personnel how to distribute or administer the school owned opioid reversal agent.

In partnership with the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceuticals Sciences, the Rayce Rudeen Foundation offers training for Washington school personnel to administer NARCAN®, the nasal spray version of the overdose-reversal drug naloxone, in the event of an overdose. Along with this training, the Rayce Rudeen Foundation provides NARCAN® training kits for each nurse to take back to their school. We will also include a protocol session focused on procedures for the school to follow—as well as follow-up resources to connect students’ families with addiction counseling and treatment.

The training will provide:

  • Data & trends on the current opioid and fentanyl epidemic
  • The ability to identify an overdose or accidental poisoning
  • Narcan training: what it is, how it works in the body, and how to administer a dose
  • Protocol and best practices for storage and post-event support
  • Q&A with a qualified panel
