This fully asynchronous course utilizes John Spencer's podcast "The Creative Classroom" to learn about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in Early Childhood Education. Participants will listen to the podcast episode "Cara Zelas on SEL, Emotional Support Dogs, and the Big World of Little Dude" where Spencer interviews early childhood educator Cara Zelas, the founder of Big World of Little Dude, an organization focused on developing SEL curriculum for children between the ages of 3 and 6. More broadly the podcast discusses how to enhance "soft skills" in the classroom to boost student engagement and learning. Completion of the course offers an opportunity to purchase 2 clock hours in SEL.
