Description
How do we help students become curious, creative, and critical thinkers in a world saturated with data? This six-session book study invites K–8 educators to explore Data Minds by Jo Boaler and Cathy Williams—a practical, inspiring guide to weaving data literacy into everyday teaching across disciplines.
Together, we’ll unpack strategies for fostering “data minds” in students, building their capacity to question, analyze, and represent data in meaningful ways. With frameworks like the Four-Part Data Cycle and practical classroom-ready “data moves,” the book offers a roadmap for turning data literacy into engaging opportunities for student agency and discovery.
Participants will engage in collaborative discussions, reflections, and activities that connect the book’s ideas to their own classrooms. Whether you teach math, science, humanities, or interdisciplinary subjects, this study will equip you to guide students in navigating and making sense of our data-rich world.

- Participants should have a copy of the book Data Minds: How Today’s Teachers Can Prepare Students for Tomorrow’s World to engage in discussions. The book may be purchased from multiple sites including:
