Description
In today’s educational landscape, data science is becoming increasingly vital. This engaging introductory course will help you further develop your understanding of data science, the importance of data literacy, and demonstrate how to integrate a data science approach into teaching.
The course has two components:
- (Asynchronous) Stanford Online course 21st-Century Teaching & Learning: Data Science, taught by faculty from the Stanford Graduate School of Education. This course is asynchronous. Participants will have between March 3 – June 15, 2025 to complete.
- (Synchronous) 3 live webinars, hosted by NWESD189, where we will foster a community of learners, share personal insights, and support each other in creating data-rich lessons for our students.
- Dates: March 20, April 24, and May 29, 2025
- 4:00 – 5:00pm via Zoom.
This course is operated through NWESD in partnership with Stanford Online. You will not have access to the course until March 3. Questions regarding this course should be directed to:

Stanford Online Course
Participants will be enrolled in the Stanford Online (asynchronous) course 21st-Century Teaching & Learning: Data Science (XEDUC315N) from the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Your name and email will be shared with Stanford Online to facilitate your enrollment. This process includes creating a login and tracking your progress towards course completion.
Stanford Online will email your account information to access your course.
Credentials and Clock Hours
Participants must complete the online course, attend the three webinar sessions, and submit a copy of the certificate of completion from Stanford to receive all clock hours. Up to 33 STEM clock hours will be available for purchase at this professional learning's completion.
All participants who successfully complete the Stanford Online course will earn a Stanford Record of Completion, which will be sent digitally by Stanford.
Upon completion of the Stanford Online course, participants must email a copy of Certificate of Completion from Stanford Online to Dianne Szerlong, Dszerlong@nwesd.org. This is REQUIRED.
