Description
This is the Last of three workshops in the series designed to establish a professional learning community that fosters resource-sharing, collaborative strategies, and alignment of high school computer science courses with college-level standards and industry needs.
We are thrilled to welcome three additional colleges into our learning community: Edmonds College, Whatcom Community College, and Bellingham Technical College. Their participation will enhance our discussions and collaborations as we strengthen pathways from high school to post-secondary education and beyond.
Together, we will focus on the following key goals:
- Coherence in Curriculum and Standards
- Develop a shared understanding of essential computer science and IT competencies across high school and post-secondary programs.
- Identify gaps and overlaps in curriculum to ensure seamless transitions.
- Map existing courses and programs, with a focus on expanding dual credit articulations.
- Exploring Current and Emerging Industry Trends
- Stay informed about emerging technologies such as AI, programming, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data science.
- Incorporate teacher feedback to ensure curriculum updates reflect the latest industry advancements.
- Gain insights into CS/IT labor market trends.
- Aligning Curriculum with Industry Needs
- Ensure certifications (e.g., CompTIA, AWS, Google) align with regional job demands.
- Collaborate with industry partners to understand emerging skill requirements and adjust curriculum focus areas.
- Host a roundtable with employers to gather insights and strengthen partnerships.
