This fully asynchronous course is a book study of Mike Caulfield and Sam Wineburg's 2023 book Verified:  How to Think Straight, Get Duped Less, and Make Better Decisions About What to Believe Online. Caulfield and Wineburg explain how people make mistakes in reading online content and offer useful strategies for verifying information. The book offers educators a useful guide for helping students navigate online content and build their digital literacy skills, including with content produced by AI. Participants will a submit a pre-reading introductory assignment, guided reading questions, and a final reflection. Completion of the course offers an opportunity to purchase 15 clock hours in STEM. NWESD 189 is a state approved clock hour provider and clock hours can be used for certificate renewal in Washington State.

Deadline:  Participants must complete this session in Canvas by July 15, 2026. Course attendance is taken on an on-going basis after participants finish, often within 3-5 days, though during rush periods and holiday breaks please be aware it may take up to 2 weeks.
