Description
This fully asynchronous course is a book study of Bill Wilkerson's 2024 book In Common With: The Fish Wars, the Boldt Decision, and the Fight to Save Salmon in the Pacific Northwest. Wilkerson examines how collaboration was instrumental in addressing the strains of the Fish Wars that erupted after the Boldt Decision (1974). The book is a memoir of the post-Boldt Decision era and the effort to reverse the dwindling supply of salmon, build a collaborative partnership between Washington State Tribes and the Washington State Fisheries Department, and create a sustainable and cooperative fish management plan. Wilkerson shares his memories of the agreements made between Washington State Tribes and state government leaders and the historic international salmon treaty between the U.S. and Canada. Participants will work at their own pace on Canvas to submit a pre-reading introductory assignment, guided reading questions, and a final reflection. Completion of the course offers an opportunity to purchase 20 clock hours in Equity or Educational Leadership.

The book is available for purchase as a paperback through the following book sellers (*please note there is no audiobook version available). Libraries may have the book available to check out:
- Watermark Book Company
- Amazon
- Barnes & Noble
- Other booksellers linked on Girl Friday Productions
