This fully asynchronous course covers issues of abuse and suicide prevention in accordance with the Washington State Professional Educator Standards. Links to an e Course content includes identification of physical, emotional, sexual, and substance abuse and identification of sexual exploitation; impact of abuse on learning and behavior; mandatory reporting requirements and responsibilities; recognition, initial screening, and response to emotional or behavior distress in students; and methods for teaching students about abuse and prevention of abuse.

There are 2 modules in the course and 3 clock hours are available for purchase. NWESD 189 is a state approved clock hour provider and clock hours can be used for certificate renewal in Washington State.

This course meets the OPSI requirement for Issues of Abuse.

Deadline:  Participants must complete this session in Canvas by July 15, 2026. Course attendance is taken on an on-going basis after participants finish, often within 3-5 days, though during rush periods and holiday breaks please be aware it may take up to 2 weeks.
