Description

NASA studies other planets, distant stars, and mysterious phenomena such as black holes, but did you know that the largest number of active NASA missions are focused on gaining a better understanding of our home planet?  Some Earth-focused NASA missions never leave the ground, and others are collecting data from the International Space Station, orbiting satellites, aircraft, and even balloons!

In this series for secondary (Grades 6-12) science/CTE teachers, we will take an integrated approach to the sciences (Life/Earth/Physical) and include connections to mathematics and engineering.  Classroom-ready activities and lessons aligned to the 3-D learning of the NGSS will be included in each session.  Participants will explore the many ways that NASA is gathering data to answer fundamental questions about the Earth, such as:

  • How is the global Earth system changing?
  • What causes these changes in the Earth system?
  • How will the Earth system change in the future?
  • How can Earth system science provide societal benefit?
