This workshop is inspired by the "Eureka! Science Stories" and "Eureka, Again!" books, published by NSTA and written by Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas.  These books each contain 27 NGSS-aligned lesson plans centered around a STEM biography storybook.  The "Eureka Science Stories" workshop focused on these existing lesson plans, but this NEW workshop takes participants to the next level in creating their own lessons based on any STEM biography storybook.

How It Will Work

BYOB: ($75 Book stipends provided to all participants!) Bring Your Own Book: Do you have a favorite STEM biography storybook?  Bring it, or, if you don't have an idea, we can help you choose one.  Then...

PYOP: Plan Your Own Project: Participants will experience a new lesson plan created by the presenters, who will also share their planning process, planning template, and other resources related to the Washington State Learning Standards in English Language Arts, Science (NGSS), and Social Emotional Learning.  Then, participants will create a brand new lesson plan based on any STEM biography storybook they choose.  Presenters will guide lesson plan development, provide feedback, and otherwise support all participants to create a lesson plan that they can use right away.  All participants will share their lesson plans with each other as well, so that everyone has access to many new Eureka-style lessons.

Expectations: In order to be successful in this personalized, participant-driven, limited class size course:
 - Please plan to attend all four synchronous sessions live -- sessions will not be recorded.
 - Please plan to join using a computer with speakers, camera, and microphone (not a phone).
 - Please plan to actively participate in break-out rooms, plan on your own or with a partner, and share out.  This is not a "sit and get" experience!
 - Please plan to have your copy of "Eureka! Science Stories" and or "Eureka, Again!" to refer to as you plan your project.

4:30 - 6:30 PM,
Tuesdays: January 11, 18, 25 and February 1

Clock Hours: 12 STEM Clock Hours, including four 2-hour remote synchronous sessions and 4 hours for asynchronous "home fun" activities.
