Tinkering and Engineering for K-8 Learning (Cohort 6)
Exploring Ideas for Remote and Classroom Projects
Presenters
- Kim Weaver
- Clancy Wolf
Description
This professional development experience will center around the book "The Art of Tinkering" by Karen Wilkinson and Mike Petrich. We will use this book and other resources to:
- discuss similarities and differences between tinkering and engineering
- learn about the work of artists, tinkerers, and engineers from around the world
- explore and experience a wide range of tinkering and engineering projects that students can engage in at home
- plan for tinkering and engineering projects during remote and blended learning
We will engage in lively discussions and active tinkering activities during five two-hour Zoom sessions, with “home-fun” tasks to expand your work between sessions.
$50 registration fee includes a copy of “The Art of Tinkering” by Karen Wilkinson and Mike Petrich and a small set of materials for your “home-fun” tinkering tasks. We will be mailing these to your address in advance of the first session; please be timely in responding to emails for address verification.
No refunds for cancellations will be issued after 4/1/2021
Expectations: Participants are expected to be present on a computer for our 5 synchronous sessions (2 hours each) and to participate by posting in our Canvas course after each session.
The course meets from 4-6 PM on the following Tuesdays in April and May:
April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11
