Social studies teachers: we may not be reading teachers, but we can help students become better readers and thinkers. With a national decline of student reading proficiency, it has caused us all to consider how we can help the reading crisis. This session will offer concrete and engaging reading strategies to help students access the texts and task of social studies content. Pulling from current research and Building Thinking Classrooms practices, we will inquire, learn and consider possibilities for explicit literacy support and plan for the 2025-26 school year.
