Changes to Common Sense Educator Certification
Dear future Common Sense Educators,
It has come to our attention that Common Sense Education has made some changes to their certification program. These changes are effective immediately and thus affect you as you work on your certification in the fall cohort. The options available in the Learn and Do sections of the certification process are more specific to the digital citizenship curriculum and family outreach. To view the new requirements, please see: https://www.commonsense.org/education/recognition-educators
If you were not already planning a family event, you will be able to meet the family outreach requirement by selecting a tip sheet, article, or family media plan template to share with families through your classroom or school newsletter or using Skyward Message Center. A short paragraph giving context and purpose for families would help them use the information effectively with their children.
It is not our intention to pull the rug out from under you as you have already started work on your certification. We believe that in most cases the new requirements for the certification process are not incompatible with the way that we have framed this self-paced course for Olympia staff. If you have concerns or questions about the impact of these changes on work that you have already completed or planned for, please contact Sharyn Merrigan at smerrigan@osd.wednet.edu to discuss a solution.
Thank you so much!
