Description

The Equity and Civil Rights Office at OSPI is providing a two-day training—open to all district and school employees—regarding civil rights protections and obligations in Washington public schools. The training is separated into three parts over two days, with separate registration for each (Civil Rights | Section 504 | Title IX Athletics).

Part 1: Civil Rights Training

Tacoma, WA | October 9 | 8:30am - 4:00pm (lunch on your own)

  • Recognize equity and civil rights issues in schools, and discover legal obligations and strategies to protect students from discrimination and harassment
  • Learn how to investigate and resolve discrimination complaints
  • Self-assess compliance with key civil rights requirements
  • Discuss how to work with staff, students, and families to create safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments
  • Learn strategies for identifying and addressing potential disparities in discipline and course and program enrollment

Who should attend? 

  • Civil rights, Title IX, and Section 504 coordinators
  • School and district administrators
