Description

A half-day professional development workshop on resistance of the World War II Japanese American incarceration.  Participants will learn about and discuss how Americans of Japanese ancestry responded to and resisted U.S. military orders that forcibly removed and imprisoned them without due process or evidence of wrongdoing or treason.  The workshop will include an investigation of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Korematsu v. U.S. and the history's relevance to present day.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be well equipped to teach about the Japanese American incarceration, especially in terms of legal resistance and urgent connections to today.  Teachers will also receive Korematsu Institute Curriculum Kits, which include standards-aligned lesson plans, videos, and primary sources on the diverse Japanese American incarceration experience.
