This virtual facilitated workshop provides K-12 educators with ideas for expanding reading instruction to make it more effective for multilingual learners.  Participants will learn ways to build on and expand current approaches to teaching reading and to engage multilingual learners in the interactions that support reading development.   Participants will engage in exploration of materials and additional resources to support their classroom implementation.  

Participants will:  

1. Name important qualities of expansive reading instruction for multilingual learners. 
2. Identify key information about how reading develops for multilingual learners. 
3. Identify one way to shift reading instruction to be more expansive and inclusive for multilingual learners. 

Participation Requirements

1. Attend two live, 90 minute webinars 
2. Complete independent work activity, in between each webinar, approximately 60 minutes of work.

Participants must attend both webinars in order to receive full clock hour credit.  

This course is open to current K-12 Washington public school educators only.  Participants must be eligible for a WIDA Secure Portal account and register with their work email address.
