School Safety & Violence Prevention: Building a Culture of Reporting
School Safety & Violence Prevention: Building a Culture of Reporting
Presenters
- Yasmin Rivera
Description
This training equips school staff and students with the knowledge and skills to recognize, respond to, and report warning signs that may indicate a student or peer is at risk of violence, suicide, or self-harm. Participants will learn how to identify concerning behaviors, understand what information should be reported, and know how to make reports through appropriate school and community channels. The session emphasizes the importance of normalizing reporting as an essential component of school safety and student well-being—shifting the culture from “snitching” to speaking up for safety. Participants will explore strategies to reduce stigma and fear around reporting and to create environments where students feel supported and empowered to seek help for themselves or others.
