Description

Katie Novak, Ed.D. will be facilitating a workshop on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Meeting the Needs of ALL Students.  Participants will understand the concepts of engagement, representation, and action & expression and how to apply the ideas in the classroom setting. Participants will learn about variability in the brain and how students learn and why it's important to address variability in lesson-planning. The audience will learn three primary brain networks and how each connects to the learning guidelines. Participants will become familiar with the Universal Design for Learning guidelines and will see how to utilize the tool in planning lessons and presentations. In addition, participants will learn about the characteristics of expert learners and how to foster the development. 

Katie Novak, Ed.D. is an internationally renowned education consultant as well as a practicing leader in education as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools at the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District in Massachusetts. With 16 years of experience in teaching and administration, an earned doctorate in curriculum and teaching, and four books published by CAST Professional Publishing, (with three forthcoming in 2019) Katie designs and presents workshops both nationally and internationally focusing on implementation of Universal Design for Learning and universally designed leadership.
