A STEM Workshop
Presenters

Description
The purpose is a workshop for K-12 teachers to weave systems thinking into any core science unit. This workshop has proven effective for a broad range of contexts from the wide range of district contexts, and can strengthen the learning in any science unit at any grade level. It serves well as a Tier-1/prerequisite for other workshops ISB offers, and systems thinking skills are helpful in understanding all the 8 SEPs and 7CCCs in the NGSS/WSSLS.
The structure is a 4-hour workshop. The workshop is built in 3 steps:
Teacher participants expand their knowledge about systems, systems thinking, creating and iterating models to develop scientific explanations, and how system models can be integrated into 3-Dimensional science learning lessons. Teachers use their own community infrastructure for scenarios. For career connections we use a strategy, “Who are the people in your neighborhood?”
Teacher teams plan their implementation.
Teachers implement the OER unit and embed systems thinking into 3-dimensional science learning in their grade/district context.
