Description

This webinar will provide an orientation to the Youth-centered Environmental Shift (YES!) program and tools to implement school-based sexual violence prevention programming. Developed by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), YES! is an innovative initiative that empowers students to help create safer school environments and aims to reduce rates of sexual violence among Washington students. Attendees will learn community-level, primary prevention approaches to protect students against sexual violence. This includes the hotspot mapping project for middle schools, where students and staff work together to identify areas on campus that feel safe or unsafe and make the school safer for everyone. An overview of new requirements for sex trafficking prevention education will also be provided.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Understand the burden and health consequences of sexual violence and sex trafficking among students in Washington State.
  2. Discuss evidence-informed approaches to sexual violence prevention.
  3. Describe the need for school-based prevention efforts to reduce sexual violence and sex trafficking.
  4. Identify resources and best practices for implementing sexual violence and sex trafficking prevention instruction.
