This workshop will explore:

• How we can use urban legends to make our lessons unforgettable

• Why we should reconsider using word problems (and what we should be doing instead)

• How to make mathematics accessible and appropriately challenging for every student in your class

Day 2:  How to Implement Engaging Problem Solving In your Classroom

This workshop will explore:

• Why math education continues to leave students unprepared for life and what we can do to fix it

• How to use ideas from Building Thinking Classrooms and the 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions to facilitate problem solving lessons

• How to use engaging methods for uncovering and fixing hidden student misconceptions

• How to facilitate real world and Open Middle problems while considering both the teacher and student perspectives
