Join facilitators Dr. James Pedersen, author of the book Summer Versus School; and David Hornak, president of the National Association for Year-Round Education to dig into learning more about what it takes to implement a modified, or balanced school year calendar. The book study will consist of live and on-demand learning. Participants will have opportunities to engage directly with the facilitators and with other participants navigating the exploration process. Hello, and welcome to the 2023 Balanced Calendar Book Study Series!

You have registered to participate in the upcoming book study on the book, Summer Versus School: Exploring the Possibilities of the Year-Round School. The book study starts Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 4pm. The book series will consist of five “live” zoom sessions and additional asynchronous work through the online course platform (Canvas). 

One week before the first session of the book study, you will receive a separate course invitation email from Instructure that will prompt you to log-in (or create an account) to access the Balanced Calendar Book Study Canvas Course. The invitation for the course will come to the email that you have listed in your PDEnroller account. 

•  If you do not have a WAESD Canvas account already, please follow the “Get Started” prompts to get into the system and access course materials and messages from the facilitators. 

•  If you are new to using Canvas, this video will be helpful as you prepare to engage fully in the book study.

To prepare for the first session on Jan 24, please read chapters 1-3 in Summer Versus School: The possibilities of the year-round school by James Pedersen and the Q&A section at the back of the book.
