Description
Thin-Slicing 101: A Deep Dive into the Heart of Building Thinking Classrooms
Thin-slicing is the Building Thinking Classroom (BTC) practice of sequencing tasks to maintain a balance between challenge and ability so as to give access for all learners while at the same time allowing us to cover large amounts of curricular content. Thin-Slicing is often seen as a mysterious part of Building BTC. In this session, I pull back the curtain on thin-slicing as I take a close look at this process. Specific attention will be given to how the process of maintaining a balance between challenge and ability creates access for all our learners while at the same time allowing us to cover larger amounts of curricular content. The practices discussed will intertwine with, and make extensive references to, the recently published book, Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classrooms (K-5 and 6-12).
